Guest Speaker:

Aldónio Fernandes Ferreira is an Associate Professor at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, where he has been since 2004. He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from Lancaster University (2002) and a degree in Management from the University of Porto (1995). Aldónio has served as the Head of Department of Accounting at the Monash Business School between 2023-2024 and has contributed to the academic community through his service roles, including through Grudis Accounting Research Network and as the elected representative of Portugal on the European Accounting Association Board between 2003 and 2009.

Aldónio's research spans several interconnected areas: Performance management and measurement systems; Management control systems and their behavioural implications; Sustainability accounting and reporting; Performance management in nonprofit organizations; and Strategic management accounting.

He has published his work in prominent international journals, including Management Accounting Research, British Accounting Review, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting and Business Research, among others. His work examines how accounting information and systems influence organizational behaviour and decision-making, with particular focus on strategy implementation and sustainability performance.

His teaching portfolio encompasses management control systems, management accounting, integrated accounting subjects, and research methods. Beyond his Monash responsibilities, Aldónio has contributed to executive education through Porto Business School's International MBA program (2008-2023) and held teaching positions at Portuguese Catholic University (1995-1998; 2002-2004) and the University of Porto (2002-2004).

Aldónio brings practical insights to his academic work through his early career experience in banking and SME consulting, where he developed expertise in financial analysis and business advisory services. His extensive contribution to service administration at Monash University, combined with practical and academic experience, informs his approach to both teaching and research in performance management and control systems.
