O MIE apresenta-se como uma formação inovadora nas áreas da Ciência da Informação e dos Sistemas de Informação, em Portugal, formando diplomados com sólida formação e competências para a análise, recuperação, organização e visualização de dados e de informação, e para a análise de sistemas de informação e de processos organizacionais.
Com esta formação pretende-se preparar profissionais capazes de fazer face às necessidades informacionais das organizações, num contexto do rápido desenvolvimento da sociedade de informação e do conhecimento.
