Main Objective: 1) exploring and developing models for learning opportunities between generations of these target groups, particularly by encouraging, enabling and 2) supporting older adults who are afraid or reluctant to participate in learning; 3) promoting the motivation of older people for acquiring basic understanding of ICT through an intergenerational transfer of skills and to prepare them for further access to education 4) promoting intergenerational learning and knowledge transfer between generations and cultures; 5) promoting, at the same time, the younger generation’s awareness of the cultural and social diversity in Europe, their understanding of historical backgrounds to increase tolerance and to reduce prejudices and xenophobia.

The project’s core family learning concept is to transfer ICT skills from younger to older people during the process of interviews with their grandparents or other older people. Together, they will create their “family story” with text, pictures and short video sequences.

The results of this family learning concept is that the parent and grandparent generation will be introduced to the world of information and communication technology by the younger generations of their families; and that the younger generation will learn to take responsibility and make use of their skills in relation to their family.

Summary:
The Grundtvig Learning Partnership “Intergenerational ICT Skills” addresses new forms of illiteracy in the shape of exclusion from use of ICT in daily life: adults who are not computer literate are deprived of essential information. This digital divide is even more persistent for low-level educated adults. Therefore, this partnership aims at exploring models for learning opportunities between generations of disadvantaged target groups, and at promoting the motivation of older people for acquiring basic understanding of ICT through an intergenerational transfer of skills.

The second subject of this Learning Partnership is the transfer of cultural and social experiences made by the older to the younger generation to acquire a sense of European citizenship. Unearthing this treasure is important since the potential of transferring this knowledge to younger generations is endangered due to the fact that it will literally “die out”. Therefore, the project’s core learning objective is a transfer of ICT skills from younger to older people during the process of interviews about the life of the old people. Together, they will create their “family story” with text, pictures and short video sequences (if desired). During a workshop, some stories will be uploaded on this website.

As a result, the older generation will be introduced to basic ICT; and young people will take responsibility and learn about cultural and social backgrounds. The project will therefore help to understand historical context and provide reflection in order to increase tolerance and to reduce prejudices and xenophobia.
