Interpreting is understood as an essential area that contributes to the success, socioeconomic development, internationalization and integration of all organisations.

The Post-Graduate Course in Interpreting Practices proposes a training program that is relevant in content and technological expertise. It meets the highest standards assuring that students and professionals (from the European Union and in other countries) develop specialised competences and skills by domains (Medical, Legal and Business). Trainers in the course hold a PhD in the subject area, and/or are professionals in the field. The professional context is the key focus.

The structure of the course took into consideration AIIC's recommendations for Interpreting courses, the opinion of professional entities, such as APTRAD (Portuguese Association of Translators and Interpreters), and professional interpreters, in order to reflect current market needs.

Main Objectives:

The course aims to meet the need for interpreting training which addresses the skills currently in demand by the market, by allowing trainees to work with tools, develop techniques and carry our intensive simultaneous and consecutive interpreting practise. It also aims to foster training opportunities in specialised domains (medicine, engineering, economics, law and related fields)

Potential candidates:

- Holders of a master's degree or equivalent; or

- Graduates in the field of ​​Languages ​​or Translation/Interpreting; other graduates with a relevant curriculum and/or professional experience in ​​Interpreting; or

- Graduates in specialised domains (medical, legal, and business); other graduates with relevant curriculum and/ or professional experience in the domains.

  • Potencial Professional activities may include, but are not limited to:
  • - Conference interpreting (Consecutive; Simultaneous);
  • - Liaison interpreting (In medical context, legal context, business context);
  • - Remote and teleconference interpreting (Consecutive; Simultaneous).

Applicants must hold a mater's degree or a graduate degree in related areas (languages and Translation), or in specialised domains (medicine, engineering, economics, law) that abide by the Bologna Declaration.

The selection of candidates is based on the analysis of the academic and/or professional curriculum, taking into account the candidate's basic academic background and any relevant professional experience.

Given the nature of the Course, and according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, Level C1 proficiency is mandatory. Candidates are obliged to present proof or certificate of language level and may be required to attend an interview. Language mastery is an eliminatory criterion.
