Computer Assisted Translation (Evening Classes)

In today's technologically advanced world, translators need professional skills much beyond the optimal command of their working languages. The Post-graduation course in Computer Assisted Translation contributes to reinforce such skills by providing practical training in automatic and computer assisted translation, subtitling and project management. Hands-on training is offered in fully equipped laboratories by experienced teachers with a specialised interest on the subjects.

The course begins with a module of theoretical background on automatic and assisted translation and proceeds with the development of translation projects of increasing complexity. Following an introduction to terminology, students learn to create databases and translation memories. They are also presented with technical writing and revision concepts, while training with technical writing, editing and revising electronic tools that will be of use to the translator. Software and Webpage Localisation and Subtitling of Audiovisual Texts provide robust training and skills for successful professional practice. In Translation Project Management, students activate and apply the skills and competences acquired throughout the course.

The Post-graduation in Computer Assisted Translation lasts two academic terms, each with four curricular units. Each curricular units has, on average, 30 hours contact time with teachers, complemented by more independent study and online support.

Course partners include some market-leading CAT tool suppliers. ISCAP-IPP is an SDL University Partner (SDL TRADOS e PASSOLO), and is partner with Star Lusitana (Transit NXT), and KilgrayTranslation Technologies (memoQ).
