CAR |
|
Whether coming from the North or the South, the A3 motorway is the main access to Braga.
To get to the Universidade do Minho-Campus de Gualtar, you should take the “Celeirós” exit.
After the toll bridge, you have to turn towards Celeirós/Braga Sul and again towards Braga Sul. You must stay on the expressway, past Continente/Minho Center (on the right) and going straight on about 600 meters.
At the next roundabout junction, you must take the right exit towards Bom Jesus/Universidade straight on about 300 meters. On the right you will pass a large building which is the Iberian International Institute of Nanotechnology.
At the roundabout, take the fourth exit, just beyond the exit for the McDonalds Drive-in. The Gualtar Campus is now ahead of you and to your left as the road turns.

Transportation to Braga
|
| From Oporto (Sá Carneiro Airport) |
by Metro/train
There are two train stations in Oporto which offer excellent transportation to Braga:
- one in the downtown centre of the city (São Bento);
- another just outside of the city (Campanhã).
They are on the same line, just 10-15 minutes apart.
You will only need to use the São Bento station if you decide to visit the city of Oporto.
Campanhã, the train station nearest to the airport, is 23 km by metro, bus or taxi. We recommend taking the metro ("Linha E") for around €3, leaving every 20 minutes between 6am and 12:35am, to arrive at the train station in just 40 minutes.
Tickets can be bought at every metro station, where you can also find useful information about the routes.
For further information about the metro serving Oporto metro, see http://www.metrodoporto.pt/
Fortunately, the train ride from Campanhã train station, leaving twice every hour to Braga, takes just under an hour for €2.80.
Be sure to buy your ticket before getting on the train. Timetables, prices and other information are available at http://www.cp.pt/cp but remember to alter the language to English in the top right corner if needed. In the left lateral bar, select “Urban Services > Oporto > Braga Lines > Timetables”; please note that you will need to specify Porto-Sao Bento or Porto-Campanha and Braga in the Timetable search bar on the right.
BY Taxi
A taxi from Oporto airport to the Campanhã train station costs about €25.
Note at night and on Sunday/holidays (please note that 25 April is a national holiday), taxis are more expensive.
The cost of a taxi from Oporto Airport to Braga is about €60.
|
| From Lisbon |
|
When you arrive in Lisbon, you can easily take a taxi to the Gare do Oriente train station, just 2 km away.
If you prefer, it is a nice walk in good weather, although it does not go through the city center but rather crosses some very busy streets.
On weekdays, you can also take a regular CARRIS bus n. 5 - Estação do Oriente/Aeroporto/Areeiro for €1.20.
Alternatively you can take the AeroBus (n. 91) which leaves every 20 minutes, from 07:45am to 8:15pm. You can buy the ticket on the bus (3.1€).
BY TRAIN
From the train station in Lisbon (Lisboa - Oriente station) to Braga, we recommend the "Alfa Pendular/AP/Alfa" train from the Gare do Oriente, which currently costs €32.50 in tourist class and takes just over 3 hours.
Timetables, prices and other information are available at http://www.cp.pt/cp but remember to alter the language to English in the top right corner if needed. In the orange search bar on the right, specify Lisboa - Oriente and Braga, noting the Portuguese spelling. You can also select the top right grey option for “Timetables and prices” to consult other information.

TAXIs
In Braga, the taxi rates depend on the distance, commonly ranging from €3 to €9.
Buses
In Braga, there are buses to all places in the city.
The company responsible for the buses is TUB - Transportes Urbanos de Braga.
The buses that go to the University of Minho are usually the 24 (Sequeira-Gualtar/Gualtar-Sequeira) and the 7 (Celeirós-S. Mamede de Este/S. Mamede de Este-Celeirós).
Note that sometimes the bus number is not visible, so you may need to use the names of the routes in parentheses.
From the train station, the university can be reached directly by the 43 (Estação CP-Universidade do Minho/Universidade do Minho-Estação CP) for approximately €1.50.
Note that the university is a short walk (just 5 minutes) from both the Hotel Lamaçães and the Meliã Braga Hotel & Spa.
